"Traitor" was allegedly inspired by Olivia Rodrigo's former boyfriend Joshua Bassett's suspected relationship with Sabrina Carpenter since he had moved on quite fast after the break-up with Rodrigo. Bassett started to trend on social media after the release of the album "Sour", and this song's lyrics got the most attention from fans.
